I heard the car door slam, and immediately looked at the clock. It was five hours later than he was supposed to come home. He was probably wrecked, and I had about three seconds to decide if this was worth fighting about. I hated playing bad cop, especially when it came to getting high. Since when was I “Captain Sobriety”? Sometimes I felt more like a mother than a girlfriend…

He had promised to be home hours earlier, but on the upside, he came home, and was in good enough shape to slam a car door. “God, my life…”, I thought to myself Well, I guess I could play it cool and get him into bed, and try talking about it in the morning.
