NaPoWriMo – Day One

Leave a comment Standard

It’s National Poetry Writing Month. From now on, I’ll try to write the daily prompt from “365 Days of Writing Prompts” as a poem so I’m not totally spamming you constantly, but since I jumped on this one a bit late today, here’s a poem in the style of Kay Ryan, as per the NaPoWriMo’s prompt.

I act

much harder toward

you than I am.

That first black eye you

gave began our end; when I

lost the respect necessary

to have you as a man.

It was a snake under my feet,

with your face on it.

Now over a year later

and we’re laughing again.

Well. We’re done but

our connection still lasts.

Your day is ending, but

mine is just beginning.

Perhaps I’m meant to walk

you to that last bridge,

as a trusted horse would.

My one hope –

may we both find peace.
