K is for “Kiss Off”, Violent Femmes

Comments 5 Standard

One of those “internally melodramatic” teenager songs…

Saw them live around the time Syd Barrett died (they did a bomb version of “Astronomy Domine”), they’re old guys now but still super-energetic and have to win some kind of award for best use of the washtub in rock.
Example: “Country Death Song
They’re from milwaukee, also, another sign of greatness.

      • Hah – can’t say I’m a vast repository of information on the femmes, either. Did I kinda blank on the letter K? Yeah. :p
That’s the Tiger Lillies – it’s from the musical shock-headed peter, which is based on a german children’s book full of little tales on what happens when you’re naughty. Believe there’s a boy who ends up with his thumbs cut off because he sucked them too much.
The Tiger Lillies are pretty awesome – twisted, dark, accordion-friendly, and they do a lot of interesting musicals – think there’s a recent one on Edith Piaf, there’s one on H.P. Lovecraft, and one on Hamlet…but oh! look into the catalogue a little deeper, and you’ve got an album called “urine palace”, and this…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH2VayGYd5I :p
And the old jazz standard covers … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu87XJmtvSE
        *excited rambling*

    • There was a post punk band called The Shock Headed Peters here in the 80’s, so this tangling up of names is confusing me a bit, its not a title easily forgotten, I remember seeing their records in shops, but never heard one
